Shelter Medical Program
Under the direction of Martin Small, D.V.M., the medical program has helped provide vaccinations, examinations and feline viral testing for many of the animals that enter the shelter, ensuring pets are healthy before being adopted. Dr. Small has been graciously donating his services on a part-time basis to the Burbank Animal Shelter for the past year and brings a lifetime of veterinary experience and expertise to the Shelter.

Kitten Foster Program
This highly successful program has been in existence since 2001 and fostered hundreds of kittens. The kitten foster parents provide shelter, attention and affection to the kittens until they are healthy, well socialized and ready for adoption. In 2004 alone, the program fostered 235 kittens with the help of 15-20 foster parents.

Happytails Program
Is that pitbull really as mean as it looks? Well, of course not, it just needs to be taught how to behave properly. The Happytails program focuses on those "hard-to-adopt" dogs that need a little extra help finding a home. Whether it be assessing and addressing specific behavioral issues or just teaching them basic manners; each dog gets the attention it needs to make a successful adoption. Under the expert tutelage of Lydia Perez, who has over a decade of dog training experience with various disciplines, this program is run by dedicated volunteers who have the gift of patience and a passion to communicate with these loving animals.

Senior Pets for Senior People
Senior dogs and cats make great companions for senior people! There’s a kind of understanding they share about growing older and wiser. The Burbank Animal Shelter is offering to waive adoption charges for Burbank Senior Citizens wishing to adopt a senior dog or cat. Burbank residents age 55 and older may adopt a Burbank Animal Shelter dog or cat that is seven years or older, without having to pay the regular adoption fee. There’s always a selection of older pets in need of a home and companionship, so senior citizens are invited to come down to the Shelter, meet the animals and talk with Shelter Staff or Volunteers about finding a suitable pet.
